Starbucks closing 8000 stores for training in May [watch]

Starbucks announced on Tuesday that it plans to close more than 8,000 of its stores for an afternoon next month to conduct racial-bias training. The announcement comes just days after two innocent black men were arrested in a Philadelphia store for refusing to leave while waiting for their friend to arrive — an incident that was captured in a now-viral video and sparked several protests.

The coffee-shop chain said it will shutter more than 8,000 company-owned locations for several hours May 29th to “conduct racial-bias education geared toward preventing discrimination in our stores.” On Monday, CEO Kevin Johnson apologized to the men in Philadelphia and said on ABC’s Good Morning Americathat he wanted all the managers at his stores to undergo training in how to spot “unconscious bias.”
