The chicken sandwich competition continues as Wendy’s has dropped its latest creation: the Jalapeno Popper Chicken Sandwich and the new Jalapeno Popper Chicken Salad. These new items join their recently updated chicken lineup, which includes: Spicy Chicken, Classic Chicken, and Pretzel Bacon Pub Chicken sandwiches.

Of course, with so much excitement going on, Wendy’s is also having a little fun at their competition’s expense. Namely, Wendy’s has firing shots at McDonald’s with its new release. “While everyone else is playing catch up and distracting consumers with stale chicken drops,” Wendy’s chief marketing officer Carl Loredo says in a statement, “We are listening and bringing exciting flavors and bold ingredients forward to help fans avoid the McStake of settling for the same boring chicken sandwiches from other fast-food joints.”

So what makes the Wendy’s Jalapeno Popper Chicken Sandwich different? Their spicy chicken filet is topped with creamy jalapeno cream cheese and sliced jalapenos and it’s served on a toasted bun with Applewood-smoked bacon, cheddar, and pepper-jack cheese.

McDonald’s is debuting their three new chicken sandwiches next week – Feb. 24th. But if you’re an impatient sort, you have a chance to try them early. A limited-edition capsule will be available on the 23rd to get a one-day jump on everyone else. More on that in a minute.

The new Crispy Chicken Sandwich is described as a “juicy, all-white meat filet” covered in a new crispy breading, crinkle-cut pickles, and served on a buttered potato roll. There’s also a spicy version made with Spicy Pepper Sauce, and a deluxe version which is topped with shredded lettuce, Roma tomatoes, and mayo in place of the pickles.

How do you get in on it? Head to and enter your name. While supplies last, you’ll be able to pay $5 to lock in a sandwich at the McDonald’s of your choice on Feb. 23rd. The capsule also contains a themed hoodie (perfect for this never-ending snow).

The bad news? There are only 1,000 capsules available…so if you want one, you ought to get moving. Otherwise, just cool your jets until Feb. 24th and you can carry-out from the store, or score via the McDonald’s app, McDelivery or, course, the drive-thru!
