NEW MUSIC FRIDAY!!! We haven’t had one of these in a few weeks. The music world mostly stopped in honor of Black Lives Matter, letting black musicians have music lovers focus on them, their voice, their experiences, and what they have to say.
But this week, pop culture moved back into the frame.. slowly. Not a ton of major names, no huge announcements, but new music nonetheless. The big reveal had to be Selena Gomez and Trevor Daniel’s collaboration. A remix of his second hit “Past Life.” And in the lyric video up top, they’re just enjoying themselves, laughing, and having fun while singing this bop. But in the ‘comments’ of the video, they use real accounts to show off the lyrics, maybe with a couple brand deals slipped in too.
Charlie Puth comes back to form with “Girlfriend.” An easy listening, head-nodder, that, for whatever reason, just makes you think ‘summertime.’ Dermot Kennedy dropped his next single, “Giants” that’s up to par with everything else he’s released so far, with a little more of an upbeat feel, and plenty of that incredible Irish accent we can’t get enough of!
Then the last two: We’re wondering when Lauv will just release a new album, he has to be close to having enough new singles out to make one. But this new one “Love Somebody,” has the chill vibe he always brings, and we love every second of it. And there’s Usher, who’s quietly bringing back new singles. He’s not making as much noise as he used to, but his music, now, is everything that it ever was. But “I Cry” will definitely give you the feels as you listen.
