If an awards show is held virtually with no audience on hand to cheer the winners and no acceptance speeches do the awards still count? You bet they do! A record’s a record and Shawn Mendes set a truly historic record at the 49th Annual Juno Awards. He became the first artist in Juno Awards history to win single of the year three years running. Mendes also became just the second artists to win artist of the year two years running. Alessia Cara, who was originally set to host, won three awards, Avril Lavigne won the Fan Choice Award and Billie Eilish’s debut album won international album of the year.
It’s happening! The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards are a go. New York Governor made the announcement telling viewers the annual ceremony will be held in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center on Sunday, August 30. The event will follow all safety guidance, including limited or no audience. It’s definitely going to be different but worth watching!
The shutdown on Broadway has been extended again, until at least early January. Although an exact date for performances to resume has yet to be determined, Broadway producers are now offering refunds and exchanges for tickets purchased for shows through Jan. 3. The latest extension wipes away man shows planned for the fall. Broadway theaters has been closed since March 12 due to the pandemic. The safety of cast, crew, orchestra and the audience is at highest priority. They look forward to returning to the stage only when it’s safe to do so.
The Weeknd has donated a whopping total of $1 million with $500,000 going to MusiCares and the other half to front line hospital workers. The generous gesture of course going to help those affected by COVID-19. Along with his charitable donation, The Weeknd brought back his XO face masks and matched every dollar to help raise the money.
